MARGARET GAENZLE
student | communicator | dancer | choreographer | artist
About Margaret
I am native of New York City, but also call Richmond, VA home.
I grew up an observant and passionate learner in the bustling city, and an internal intellectual and artist in the quieter and slower river city. Through my life, I developed two separate passions: communications and dance.
I have the desire to travel and the interest in delving into different cultures, which I enjoy capturing through photographs. Dance has taken me all over the world, and I look forward to a career in communications and where it will take me.
Biography
Margaret Gaenzle was born and raised in New York City. Following in her mother’s footsteps, she enjoyed ballet class and ended up falling in love with the art form. She danced at School of American Ballet while attending school until her family uprooted to Richmond, VA. There, she attended an all-girls high school and danced at Richmond Ballet. During her junior and senior years, Margaret danced for Richmond Ballet as a Trainee, meaning she would become a part time high school student and dance 30+ hours per week either taking class, rehearsing or performing. This challenge brought Margaret countless opportunities including the chance to dance in company roles in Swan Lake, George Balanchine’s Serenade, The Nutcracker and more. During high school she was also an editor for the school newspaper, The Arcadian, and an active member in the Community Service League. She eventually accepted a merit scholarship from Southern Methodist University, where she is currently earning her BFA in Dance and BA in Strategic Communications and Public Relations from Meadows School of the Arts. There, she is an active dancer and student and a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, and her sorority, Pi Beta Phi.
Through her previous work experience, either in dance or various internships she has honed grace, organization, leadership, and communication skills. She is passionate about corporate communications, public relations, marketing and arts management on a professional level and an advocate for the performing and fine arts. As well as working as a Trainee for Richmond Ballet, she has previously studied with and danced for Alonzo King LINES Ballet in San Francisco, The Royal Ballet School in London, NYU Tisch School of the Arts and School of American Ballet in New York City.
Her internships during college have varied in industry and job, which has allowed her to obtain a range of skills and knowledge. Her interest in both finance and marketing lead her to work for ALM First Financial Advisors, LLC in Dallas as their marketing intern. She assisted the team of this leading asset liability financial advisory firm with the strategic objectives of its clients, which include small and medium-sized savings and loan banks and credit unions. She learned how to use Salesforce, Pardot and GoToWebinar for optimization of the client database and weekly webinar management. She also worked on their corporate event planning and oversaw the implementation of logistics and operations for meetings, conferences, road/trade shows and special events. With the corporate event planning tool, Cvent, she assisted in planning the firm's 2016 Financial Forum and helped create the ALM First mobile app through CrowdCompass.
During that same summer, her other interest in communications, public relations and media lead her to work for Mesero Restaurant Group as one of their public relations and social media interns. She created public relations, social media and marketing plans for this multi-unit casual and fine dining restaurant company. The interns presented to and collaborated with the founding owner, Mico Rodriguez and president, Trey Dyer for planning, strategy and implementation.
This past summer she worked as the Corporate Communications intern at Time Inc. in New York City. Margaret wrote the internal daily news roundup, which included both press mentions of Time Inc., all of its brands, and trends in the media industry. She drafted bios, internal memos, press releases and highlight releases. She assisted in managing the Time Inc. corporate website and the internal employee website using WordPress. She also posted to the Time Inc. Facebook and Twitter accounts. Her favorite part of the summer was planning a number of TODAY Show segments featuring Real Simple. With the other interns, she created and oversaw the first-ever weekly “breakTime” event intended for intern networking opportunities.
She is currently serving as Senior Account Executive at Boulevard Consulting and working with the Dallas Entrepreneur Center (DEC) on their communications and public relations objectives and tactics.
Margaret wishes to move to New York City after graduation and work in corporate communications or public relations in the finance, media or art industries. She would also like to obtain a graduate degree after working full time for a few years. She cherishes spending time with her parents, younger sisters, extended family including her dog and friends. When she’s not at school, dancing or working she enjoys hiking, skiing, boating and reading on the beach.
